We are an independent agency of the government of Manitoba, responsible for administering the Human Rights Code. If you are experiencing or have recently experienced discrimination, we can take your complaint and conduct an investigation to determine if there is enough evidence to warrant a hearing. We also offer mediation services throughout the process in an attempt to resolve the issue without a hearing.
If you are Métis and are looking for legal support or advocacy, we operate a variety of programming to support Métis citizens involved in the criminal justice system. We provide a community based alternative to the traditional court system and offer culturally appropriate supports, advocacy, and resources. We have offices in Dauphin, The Pas and Winnipeg to serve the Interlake, Northwest and The Pas regions of Manitoba.
If you're part of a public interest group or have a low income, we take pro bono test cases, specifically those involving consumer law, poverty law, environmental law, Indigenous law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms challenges.
We provide advocacy, support and resources for women in the provincial and federal justice system, with an emphasis on Indigenous women. Our programs include court support, bail verification and supervision, anger management, transitional housing and more.
We provide information about the court process to primarily to Indigenous peoples who come in contact with the law. We offer support explaining the court process, a person’s charges and in some cases, attend court for the person on trial. We have various offices across Manitoba, including in northern communities.
